Academic staff member (PhD Candidate)

The research foci of the research section “Political Anthropology” lie at the intersection of Political and Feminist Anthropology as well as Indian Ocean and Swahili-Studies. The regional focus includes Eastern Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and the global Swahili-speaking diaspora. Your tasks:

  • independent development and implementation of a research project (with the aim of a doctorate)
  • further scientific qualification (i.e. PhD)
  • teaching commitments (2 semester hours per week, basic courses)
  • support to the representative of the section in the preparation of a grant application
  • participation in examinations and the university’s committee work
  • general support of the section “Political Anthropology"

Your profile:

In addition to the general requirements according to public services law, applicants must meet the recruitment requirements stipulated in § 57 of the Hochschulgesetz of Rhineland-Palatinate.

  • a successfully completed scientific university degree (BA and MA), preferably in Social Anthropology/ Ethnology
  • very good knowledge of ethnographic and empirical methods
  • experience in teaching in higher education is an advantage
  • experience in presenting and publishing research results
  • very good knowledge of German and English
  • Swahili language skills/ regional knowledge of Eastern Africa desired

The position is paid according to EG 13 TV-L and to be filled Employment start date. The position is limited to a period of 3 years.

The position serves the purpose of academic qualification (e.g. doctorate).
