Computer Scientist

Mainz University Library is the central information service provider for students and academics at JGU. It provides them with literature and information according to their needs and offers them modern learning and communication facilities.

 

In the Digital Library Services department, approximately 50 employees provide the IT infrastructure and technical solutions for the UB's digital services. We are looking for reinforcement for the library management system and the FOLIO project.

Your tasks:

  • Participation in the migration project for the introduction of the library software FOLIO.
  • Design and implementation of tools for data migration and transformation
  • Design, implementation and further development of interfaces and workflows for FOLIO, documentation
  • Layout and integration of the software projects according to DevOps principles
  • Communication and coordination of requirements and development with partners in the library network and the OS community
  • Continuous further developments of the system in production operations

Your profile:

  • University degree (master) in computer science or comparable degree
  • Sound knowledge in object-oriented software development in Python and Java
  • Good knowledge of containerization and of relational (SQL-based) databases as well as Linux systems
  • Knowledge of REST interfaces as well as data modelling and data transformation (eg. with JSON, XML.)
  • Experience on DevOps environments is a plus
  • Good German and English skills
  • Enthusiasm in working on a larger, international open source software project
  • Independent, structured and results-oriented way of working
  • Communication skills and enjoy working in a team

The position is remunerated according to salary grade A 13 LBesG and to be filled as soon as possible. This is a permanent civil servant position.
